C4I market normalises

Forecast International's 2007 "C4I Market Overview" reports that the wave of accelerated R&D funding and procurement that followed the 9/11 terrorist attacks is now ending as the C4I market realigns itself to the period before September 11.

In commenting on the current state of the market, Richard Sterk, Senior Analyst at Forecast International, said, "The majority of these rushed programmes have now run their course, and starting around 2008-2009, the market should begin reverting back to a pre-9/11 pace."

This latest review of the C4I market is based on an examination of 131 C4I programs and 25 companies offering C4I products. According to the analysis, the C4I market will be worth $8.253 billion in 2007, and will then steadily decline to $2.721 billion in 2016. The total market over the 10-year period covered by the study (2007-1016) will have a value of at least $50.704 billion.

BAE Systems and Raytheon Company have formed a team to pursue opportunities under the Distributed Common Ground System-Navy (DCGS-N) programme. The system will share and disseminate intelligence data from a variety of network-centric sources.

The DCGS-N Enterprise Team, consisting of DCGS experts from BAE Systems and Raytheon, will design and demonstrate a Web-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and targeting capability to support naval operations and other US government agencies, military services, and US allies for a wide range of missions.

DCGS-N, in combination with the DCGS Integration Backbone, will provide the network-centric operations backbone for the U.S. Navy and for the actionable and timely distribution of ISR data, processes, and systems. An enterprise DCGS-N solution will help naval combatant commanders make better operational decisions in major combat operations and the global war on terrorism.

The German government has selected the Rheinmetall Group of D"usseldorf to develop a system for protecting Bundeswehr forward operating bases, reports Epicos.com.

Known by its German initials NBS, this new short-range force protection system will detect and physically intercept incoming rocket, artillery and mortar (RAM) rounds.

The prime focus of the development contract will be to modify and improve Skyshield 35mm guns, sensors, fire control technology and Ahead ammunition to deal with asymmetric threats in out-of-area theatres of operation.

Tadiran Telecom, global IP business telephone and communications supplier, recently announced that its family of Coral IP PBX products has passed the US Department of Defense (DOD) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) testing and certification, says datacollectiononline.

The PBX-1 CPE solution also achieved Information Assurance (IA) Accreditation from the DISN Security Accreditation Working Group (DSAWG) and Interoperability Certification from the Joint Staff of the DSN Voice Connection Approval Office.

These certifications confirm that Tadiran's IP Communications products comply with the interoperability, reliability and resiliency requirements of the DOD's multi-vendor testing environment.
