Billion's answer to Wireless' need-for-speed

New Billion 7300N router optimises 802.11n (draft 2) features

Johannesburg, 20 Jun 2008

Keeping trend with the latest development in wireless technology, Nology has introduced Billion's 7300N all-in-one router based on the second and latest draft of the 802.11n standard.

Optimised for South African home and small office, home office (SoHo) users, the router provides broadband access with ADSL (ADSL2+ ready), or configured Ethernet WAN (EWAN). Essentially, one of the router's Ethernet LAN ports can be configured as a WAN interface for connecting to an external broadband modem for a service such as WiMAX or iBURST. The 7300N therefore delivers the ability to use the device as an 802.11n ADSL modem with router or as a broadband router. This allows users to switch their broadband service type without needing to replace their hardware, delivering a significant cost saving not to mention convenience.

Furthermore, the 7300N features an integrated draft 802.11n Wireless Access Point which offers faster speeds of up to 300Megabits per second (Mbps).

"The second draft of 802.11n is ideal for indoor coverage as it aims to overcome physical obstacles usually associated with wireless connectivity in buildings," explains Riaan Leuschner, managing director at Nology, a distributing agent of broadband and networking products.

"With the Billion 7300N router, users can expect up to three times the wireless coverage of a standard 802.11b/g network device."

Set-up is a breeze with Billion's unique Easy Sign-on (EZSO) technology. EZSO assists the user in an easy step-by-step process to setup the Internet connection as well as the wireless connection (including wireless security).

The router also features an integrated SoHo firewall which provides protection against hacker attacks while the Quality of Service (QoS) prioritises queues and traffic for applications such as music downloads, online gaming, video streaming and file sharing.

Importantly, Billion's 7300N router includes Wireless Protected Access (WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK) and Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) features that enhance the level of transmission security and access control over Wireless LAN. It also supports the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) standard, allowing users to easily establish a secure wireless network.

Additional Billion 7300N benefits and features include:
4-Port 10/100 Switch
Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) compliant;
Supports VPN (virtual private network) pass-through
