Core Group, distributor of Apple products in South Africa, says iPhone owners can now have their accidentally cracked phone screens replaced with Apple-authorised products in-store.

Previously, this option did not exist in SA and owners would either have to replace their entire smartphone, or have it repaired at an unauthorised repair shop.

This offer will be available from Monday, 29 January, through any Digicape or iStore.

"This is the first time local iPhone users will have the peace of mind that their screen replacement is completed by an Apple authorised service provider, with a genuine Apple replacement screen, ensuring full functionality is retained and the manufacturer's warranty remains valid ? often at a lower cost than current non-authorised repairs," the Core Group said in a statement.

"Screen repairs at unauthorised vendors could impair functionality and warranty ? only an authorised screen repair at an Apple authorised service provider, using genuine Apple spare parts and specialised equipment, will ensure your repaired product is returned working the way it should."

The company adds that using counterfeit or third-party parts can cause safety issues and could void the warranty on iPhones.

Costs for the replacements will be:

iPhone 6S: R2 999
iPhone 6S Plus: R3 499
iPhone 7: R3 299
iPhone 7 Plus: R3 799
iPhone 8: R3 999
iPhone 8 Plus: R4 999
iPhone X: R5 999

Repairs will be completed within four working days, subject to demand. Additionally, iStore Sandton Drive will offer an express service where customers can book online to have their screen repaired on the same day as their scheduled appointment.
