Viewsonic has a spotted history here in SA. It's a really well-respected brand abroad, and from the items I've had experience with, it produces high quality bits of kit.

However, the brand has 'changed hands' in the local channel model more often than I've been sent its products, and it's now back in SA thanks to Comstar.

This monitor, Dubbed the VX2250wm, is a 22-inch widescreen model with LED backlighting and support for full HD resolutions. Sadly, there's no HDMI port - as you'll find on many desktops and laptops - which means using older connections such as DVI and VGA. Fortunately, cables for each are supplied in the box.

Performance is above average for a monitor of this price. It's not going up against the high performance gaming monitors with 120Hz refresh rates or similar (it only boasts a 60Hz refresh), but as an everyday desktop monitor, it's perfect.

The LED backlighting works a treat, even in brightly lit rooms, and it's one of very few 22-inch monitors that support the full HD resolution (1920 x 1080). This is great for having browser windows open alongside chat windows and even Word documents.

It's well-priced, too: a quick search online shows most 22-inch monitors come in at around the R1 800 mark. Thing is, those all have a maximum resolution of 1680x1050. The better resolution on the Viewsonic definitely counts for a lot, and it's the one I'd go for.
