After two bumper January issues, this week's National Tender Bulletin is scaled back to the bare basics. This is common for the start of the calender year as the two week lead time for advertisements means that many of the notices were submitted in mid-December or were made ready for placement in the new year.
Accordingly, the latest issue reflects a public sector which is still getting back into the swing of things.
Requests for services is the only area that attracts interest in the double digits, with most of the requests originating from the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development and the Gauteng Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs. In the first case, the national department has issued a number of separate invitations for service providers to be placed on a panel to conduct fully-fledged forensic investigations into complex matters. Three of these notices are of interest to those in the ICT field.
The advertisements from the Gauteng Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, on the other hand, relate to two separate projects. The first calls for a service provider to conduct a work study investigation and business process mapping to assess the current situation at Gauteng's COGTA department. This is followed by two advertisements surrounding the establishment of an Integrated Provincial Disaster Management Centre.
Elsewhere in the bulletin, the software sector will find it has little to consider, while the hardware sector receives an average number of requests. The State IT Agency is conspicuous in its low profile following a period of high activity. Its contribution to the latest issue is limited to two of the three cancellations. The results section is also quiet this week with just four tenders awarded.
