Facebook apps for iPhone
Social networking site Facebook is letting its users play together on the road by using Apple's popular iPhone and iPod Touch mobile devices, reports Mobiledia.
"For the first time, your iPhone apps can now have friends," says Dave Morin, Facebook's senior platform manager.
Facebook Connect for the iPhone debuted with nine applications available at Apple's online iTunes store and a promise that more will launch in coming days.
Shareholders pressure US Cellular
Further consolidation in the US telecoms market could be imminent as shareholders are reportedly pressuring US Cellular to seek a buy-out from one of its larger rivals, writes Cellular News.
The company is 81% controlled by Telephone & Data Systems, which is itself facing pressure from several large shareholders to put itself up for sale.
US Cellular is the fifth largest operator in the US, with just under 6.2 million customers, although a recent analysis by Mobile World predicted it could well be surpassed by MetroPCS during 2009.
No LOCINT for the US
Technology that tracks millions of 911 calls from cellphones in the US every month is being deployed in Middle Eastern and Asian-Pacific countries to track terror suspects, states Fox News.
However, legal obstacles prevent widespread usage in the US, and some critics say this hampers authorities from tracking suspected terrorists and other dangerous criminals on American soil.
Location intelligence, or LOCINT, lets investigators locate a cellphone within 50 metres - meaning if a suspect is carrying a cellphone and authorities know his number, they can follow his 'digital footprint' wherever he goes.
