Ericsson unveils a networked Africa

In furtherance of its effort and advancing its vision for a new Africa in technology application, technology and services to telecom operator Ericsson has unveiled the latest strategy that will enable her start consulting with key stakeholders across the continent to engineer a vision for 'A Networked Africa', says Vanguard.

The strategy when fully come into operation will see Ericsson sub-Saharan Africa mobilising the African community at various levels and in a number of sectors to start the convention around what A Networked Africa means.

Unveiling the company latest strategy at Civic Centre, Victoria Island Lagos, the company regional head, Lars Linden said: “Ericsson sees a future in which telecommunications forms the basis of a 21st century information-based infrastructure.”

Rage expo dates announced

The 9th Rage gaming expo, held annually at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg will be held from 30 September to 2 October this year, says LazyGamer.

The Rage expo is said to be the leading destination for the latest developments in the gaming, technology, consumer electronics and lifestyle entertainment products in the South African market.

“We are happy to report an attendance growth of 8% from 2009 with a total of 20 316 visitors at the 2010 Rage expo. Additionally 2 080 NAG LAN tickets sold out in 36 hours. This year we expect to top 23 000 visitors with the LAN increasing in size yet again,” explains Michael James, senior project manager for Rage.

Telfree gets UN achievement award

The South African-based research and development arm of the international telecommunications group, Telfree, has been awarded the Outstanding Regional Achievement Award for Excellence in Mobile Content at the UN World Summit Award (WSA) for its Telfree MzansiSMS product, writes Telfree.

This is the first time an African mobile company has been recognised by the WSA. Innovative usages, applications and content for mobile phones are fast creating a powerful new market - covering m-Business and m-Government to m-Health and m-Empowerment. In response to this rapid development, The World Summit Award Mobile (WSA-mobile) was created to recognise excellence in the mobile realm. The WSA brings together the world's best mobile content and most innovative cell phone applications from over 100 countries and regions.

Organised by the International Centre for new Media in Salzburg, The World Summit Award Mobile is a global initiative within the framework of, and in cooperation with, the UN World Summit on the Information Society, in collaboration with UNESCO, UNIDO and UN GAID.
