Tumi Dlamini is a corporate lawyer with a multi-disciplinary background in Corporate Law, Public Policy, African Development, Corporate Governance. Currently an advisor to the APRM she advises African governments on policy reforms to strengthen corporate governance standards in Africa. She has assessed and reported on governance practices in Ghana, Egypt, Liberia, Algeria, Senegal, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Ethiopia, Nigeria and others.

She recently spearheaded itwethe development of the first ever African Principles and Guidelines on Corporate Governance. The Principles represent a bold step towards redefining and reimagining corporate governance in Africa and globally. They empower businesses not only to pursue PROFIT but also PURPOSE and thereby contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of their communities and the continent at large.

Prior, Tumi was the first black woman partner at Bowmans, an international law firm in South Africa where she specialised in corporate law and cross border Mergers and Acquisitions. She was also the Executive Director of a Business Federation in SA.

She is an international and TEDx Speaker and has written articles on the role of corporate governance in Africa to promote inclusive growth and has served on several boards including JSE Listed Companies, public sector and Non-Profit sector. Tumi is passionate about promoting access to quality education and is a recent former President of Harvard University Association South Africa where she promoted access to opportunities for talented but disenfranchised South Africans to study at Harvard University. She is also the Founder of the Thinabantu Foundation which supports talented but vulnerable girls from rural and township communities in KZN to gain access to transformational education opportunities in boarding schools.

She holds a BSoc Sci in Politics and Industrial Sociology and an LLB from the University of Cape Town and a Masters in Public Administration and Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School Government.
