Viv Crone is CTO of Spescom Group and has also held the position of CEO of Spescom DataVoice since August 1999. During the 12 years that he has been with the Spescom Group, he has managed the development of a number of Spescom products, such as the Eskom Rural Telecontrol System, CashPower pre-payment electricity system and initial stages of the NTE development for the BT Project. During this time he was also CEO of Energy Measurements, the pre-payment electricity joint venture with Siemens. Previously, Crone worked for Murray & Roberts Technologies as technical manager and was responsible for the development of telecontrol systems for railway signalling and electrical transmission and reticulation control. Crone also spent five years in the US, working in the IT&T Transmission Division. He managed the development of European standard telecommunications transmission equipment. He graduated cum laude with a BSc Engineering degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1972. He is also a Fellow of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers.
