Dries van der Colff is a founder member and director of Fulcrum. After graduating as an electronics engineer from the University of Pretoria, he joined the South African Air Force (SAAF). He was involved as project engineer in the acquisition teams of a number of systems for the SAAF. He was also the project officer for the acquisition of a mission simulator for a fighter aircraft during this period. In 1996, he joined BSW-Data, a telecommunications company, which is now part of Dimension Data. During his time at BSW-Data, he did account management and performed various project management tasks. In 1997, he joined Denel Aviation as a contracted training device consultant for the Rooivalk helicopter. During this time, he developed user requirement specifications for a suite of aircrew training devices, ranging from a full mission simulator, to a desktop tactical trainer. In 1998, Van der Colff left Denel Aviation to start Fulcrum with two friends.
