Andre Maree, MD of KSS, acquired an early interest in computing. With the introduction of the IBM PC in 1981, he began developing software while also working for Iscor and completing his Higher National Diploma in Electronic Engineering. Upon graduating in 1983, he spent three years at Datakor as part of an R&D team focused on ATMs and other IT equipment used in the financial sector. This was followed by a technical management position at PC company Microness. At this time, the first PC networks started emerging. In anticipation of the PC communications explosion, Maree combined his communications and networking skills to start his first company, Network Interface Consultants (NIC), in June 1987. In February 1998, Siltek acquired NIC and in March 2000, the company bought back its independence and KSS was formed.
