Training company Torque IT, a division of Mustek Electronics, has acquired the Information and Technology Training Centre (ITTC).
Torque IT announced the deal last night at a function held at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre. Gary Chalmers, MD of the company, emphasised the importance of training within the industry and said the new acquisition placed Torque IT at the top of the technical training market.
Chalmers did not disclose the amount of the transaction but said it was a "win-win situation for everyone involved".
Negotiations between Torque IT and ITTC entered into a serious stage about two weeks ago, according to Chalmers. He described ITTC as the "perfect match" because of its presence in Cape Town and positioning in the market.
"The technical IT training industry has had its moment of truth," said Chalmers, "and following either the closure or acquisition of almost every top 10 company in the past year, the gap between the top players and the 'fly-by-nights` that has plagued the industry is getting ever larger."
"This deal is exactly what we have been looking for. It gives our staff and clients the power of being part of the major industry player, combined with the security of being part of Mustek," said Richard and Jenni Mulligan, founders and joint MDs of ITTC.
The enlarged Torque IT offers technical computer training and certification on the Cisco, Microsoft and CompTIA range of products.
