Events management company 1073 will host an e-government conference on 19 and 20 September in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
The conference will provide companies with insight on how new technology can enable many e-government initiatives.
"The challenge for government is to continually have to balance the need for improved productivity while maintaining its societal position as one of the country`s largest employers," says Lisa Helm, The Business Zone 1073`s production director.
There is therefore a need for the implementation of e-government strategies in order to increase productivity, improve business processes, service delivery and communication, she says. This provides business with an opportunity to provide government with business solutions that may assist in achieving integrated, coherent and well-designed systems.
The two-day conference programme includes an overview of the South African government`s IT expenditure as compared to global trends, biometric solutions for government, the ICT empowerment charter and how ICT can improve service delivery in municipalities.
Speakers include Mavuso Msimang, CEO of SITA and Tintswalao Shilowa, project manager of Hanis, Department of Home Affairs.
Representatives from the three tiers of government, as well as IT directors, financial managers, project managers and consultants to the public sector will attend.
One of the key objectives of the conference is to encourage the forming of public private partnerships, Helm says.
"We see the role of business as that of providing business solutions in the form of expertise, project management and assisting government in meeting its objectives of e-government at large," says Helm.
