AIIA calls for green support

AIIA CEO Ian Birks is calling on ICT businesses and the Australian Federal Government to focus on environmental sustainability, says IT News.

According to IT research firm Gartner, the ICT industry globally produces around 2% of total carbon emissions -- as much as the airline industry.

"It's probably only in the past three to five years that environmental sustainability has become such a strong issue that it's really had a direct and positive impact on the design and creation of ICT solutions," said Birks.

Sutus provides green tech

Sutus Business Central, a multi-service business gateway (MSBG) that provides small businesses with a fully-integrated , and solution, has released its findings on energy savings of its small business technology, says TMCnet.

In addition to its business operational features, the power consumption, design and advanced remote support of Business Central reduce a small business' carbon footprint compared to a piece-meal solution that provides equivalent business functionality.

Shawn Chute, executive VP of Sutus, says: "Small business owners in particular have the advantage of being able to change the way their company operates in many ways according to their preferences, and the Sutus Business Central enables them to improve business functionality while helping the environment by utilising an energy efficient office solution."

Angstrom unveils green initiative

Angstrom Microsystems claims that green computing helps companies reduce their carbon footprint while considerably saving energy and money over traditional computing solutions, particularly in the data centre market, which accounts for 3% of all power consumption in the US, reports CNN Money.com.

Through over eight years of research and development, Angstrom's energy efficient, high-end blade servers, workstations and software solutions have been designed to provide maximum performance while reducing costs.

Lalit Jain, CEO of Angstrom Microsystems, says: "We reduce power consumption in three ways: by reducing the number of computers necessary to operate; reducing the power to cool the computers that are used; and finally, by improving the electrical efficiency of each computer."
