Browsing the palm of your hand
A long time in the coming, PalmSource yesterday released the Palm Browser with all the bells and whistles anyone could want. The browser, built with the ARM processor in mind, includes Web browsing and e-mail as well as local services.
The company is punting the security, speed and graphics capabilities of its new browser, which runs on Palm OS 5. It expects the release to boost the demand for handheld and wireless devices. The proxy-less browser also supports a number of access methods to get onto the Net, including traditional dial-up methods as well as 802.11 and Bluetooth connections.
Although Javascript support is built in, users can disable this to reduce download times as well as exclude images from the downloads. As far as standards go, the browser supports everything from the latest W3C specifications to XHMTL, cHTML (compact HTML), DOM level 1 and 2, CSS and Javascript.
