Fujitsu Siemens Computers easyXchange for effective e-mail storage

Johannesburg, 14 Jan 2005

Rising e-mail volumes and the tendency towards increasing business-critical computing content in the messaging store is a huge challenge for corporate IT departments. Overflowing mail servers can hamper performance, cause downtime and increase operating costs. An interruption in e-mail service can directly interfere with business processes, and can negatively impact company performance.

Compliance with legislative requirements such as FICA (Financial Intelligence Centre Act), which requires that companies store e-mails in an unaltered state for a prescribed term, add pressure to IT departments looking for a solution to store and archive e-mail.

"Fujitsu Siemens Computers` easyXchange mail server and storage consolidation solution is borne out of a strategy aimed at reducing complexity, while ensuring availability and increasing performance," says Jane Tully, Business Development Manager Enterprise Computing at Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

"EasyXchange is our complete solution consisting of servers, storage systems, software and services for consolidating enterprise mail server and storage environments."

EasyXchange comprises key building blocks regarding application availability, data availability and full lifecycle management for the archiving of mails and enclosures based on Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. The solution provides all sizes of organisations with a range of small, medium, large and extra large configurations as well as a choice of availability levels to meet their specific requirements.

Based on Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Microsoft`s messaging and collaboration platform, easyXchange comes with Fujitsu Siemens Computers` Intel-based PRIMERGY servers and best-in-class storage products including its FibreCAT range and Legato`s Networker BusinessSuite.

Supporting all the essential features of mail server and storage consolidation, Fujitsu Siemens Computers thus provides a complete solution, offering content storage and messaging, automated backup and information protection.

The system is able to meet the legal requirements for e-mail retention through managing mails in an active, rule-based and business process orientated manner to fulfil the entire e-mail lifecycle requests. In addition, easyExchange offers storage management software that guarantees automatic data migration within the storage hierarchy.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has completed its own major Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 consolidation project to redevelop an internal Exchange infrastructure. With offices around the EMEA and over 7 000 employees, the company handles a massive quantity of e-mails daily. The launch of Microsoft`s new Exchange Server 2003 solution - which includes key functions for consolidation - led to Fujitsu Siemens Computers` decision to consolidate its mail infrastructure consisting of 60 servers in about 40 locations on two core Exchange Server sites with less than 10 servers.

The results of the project speak for themselves, with the company`s IT department estimating overall cost savings of about 40%. Fujitsu Siemens Computers has therefore taken this proven approach and used it to create easyXchange.

Customers, partners and press have the opportunity to get a more in-depth view of the solution at Microsoft`s Bryanston offices on 15 and 18 February.
