Fontera, a local mobile product development company and successful participant in the UUNET Bandwidth Barn Incubator project, recently signed a licensing agreement with US-based Spark Network Services, a division of AdvancedTele.com.
The licensing agreement allows the company to distribute RadioTXT to its more than 400 radio stations throughout North America, including the US and Canada, with the product branded as PromoTXTRadio.
"The Bandwidth Barn has been instrumental in our development and growth. We are very proud of the fact that our solution is designed, developed, built and managed from SA," says Simon Leps, Marketing Director at Fontera.
RadioTXT is utilised by a number of leading radio stations in SA and allows broadcasters to build a database of listeners while offering value-added services such as competition, vote, dedication, comment, eye-witness traffic and breaking news lines.
The technology is entirely locally developed - with Fontera`s development team working from the UUNET Bandwidth Barn - and is fully customisable and scalable. Particularly relevant to this agreement was the fact that RadioTXT can be used on GSM, CDMA and TDMA cellular networks, making it suitable for the global marketplace. Further, Fontera`s in-studio text messaging system can be integrated with a variety of platforms, including interactive voice response (IVR), e-mail, the Internet and instant messaging (IM).
"Fontera`s product offering is very well engineered and we are confident that we have the experience and sales channels to effectively roll-out this exciting new product to the North American media market," said Bob Bentz, co-owner of AdvancedTele.com.
"As the States does not have a strong GSM tradition or background, RadioTXT is set to be groundbreaking within the US market. It is the first of its kind in the region and will provide many radio stations and listeners with SMS features and functionality for the first time," Leps concludes.
Fontera delivers cutting-edge SMS interfaces and mobile marketing solutions worldwide. As such we develop and market mobile solutions for use on GSM, CDMA and TDMA cellular networks. We specialise in text messaging and the integration of text with other platforms such as the Web, e-mail and instant messaging.
Our products are aimed at specific industries that we think can benefit the most from the introduction of SMS to their marketing mix. Everything is designed by our product team in consultation with market leaders in each industry in order to build the best solution for that segment.
We are able to assist companies with all their SMS needs as all our software is built from scratch by our expert development team. Our development team is based in Cape Town and we have three sales and marketing offices in Johannesburg, London and Atlanta, US.
