Mbeki's ICT meeting begins today

Johannesburg, 05 Sep 2008

The final Presidential International Advisory Council on Information Society and Development (PIAC on ISAD), under the current administration, is taking place this weekend in Hoedspruit, Limpopo.

This will be the eighth gathering of its kind, aimed at bringing industry and government together on the topic of ICT.

The council is made up of a group of international CEOs, presidents and heads of major international corporations, and experts who are active in the ICT field.

These include representatives from SAP, Microsoft, Nokia, Oracle and HP.

PIAC, through the creation of an e-skills council, has already led to the creation of an e-skills academy that focuses on training ICT graduates for the industry.

This time, the meeting will discuss, among other things, trends and developments in the ICT sector, and how SA has been and should take advantage of technology to improve socio-economic developments.

The meeting begins today and there will be a press briefing on Sunday where the media will be able to interrogate the council members on what has been discussed during the course of the weekend.
