Software developer Beget Holdings has issued its first cautionary notice since becoming the only IT company to list on the JSE last year.

The announcement that the group is in talks had no effect on the share, which has seen little activity since a quiet listing on 9 December.

The share price has been unchanged at 18c since 19 December, after spending about a week at 19c.

Prior to the listing, the group acquired Smartcast, which specialises in gathering database information from cellphone users.

An analyst says the latest talks most likely involve another potential acquisition to expand its service offering.

Beget develops and distributes software enabling its client base to combine database management with thin client technology and link it to e-commerce, using the GSM cellular platform as the carrier.
