Datatec makes UK acquisition

Datatec`s global arm, Datatec International, has bought Analysys, a UK-based telecommunications strategy consulting firm, for lb12.8 million.

Analysys, with headquarters in Cambridge, has offices in London, Glasgow, Paris, Milan, Madrid, San Francisco and Washington DC.

Datatec International has formed a new subsidiary, Analysys Mason Group (AMG), to carry out the purchase, and it is transferring its re-shareholding in Mason Group to AMG.

This is to allow management to get a stake in the combined business, as part of a leveraged management buy-in, it says.

Datatec CEO Jens Montanana says the formation of the new company will help the group stay at the forefront of fundamental shifts in technology.

"The business of Analysys is complementary to that of Mason and there are significant strategic and operational advantages to be obtained through combining the two operations," he says.

"The newly formed group will have greater critical mass with broader geographic reach and will be more competitive in the TMT (telecommunications, media and technology) sector."

In the short-term, the businesses of Analysys and Mason will continue to operate as standalone, independently branded businesses under the AMG umbrella, combining resources as client needs dictate. However, they will share central infrastructure services, Datatec says.
