HP virtualises storage arrays

HP has released a network-based storage platform that virtualises mid-range storage arrays into a single pool of capacity, designed to simplify scaling and management, says ZDNet.

The StorageWorks SAN Virtualisation Services Platform (SVSP) works with HP mid-range arrays, such as the StorageWorks Modular Smart Array and the StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array. It can also run on mid-range arrays from third parties, but not high-end arrays, such as the StorageWorks XP.

The SVSP platform is designed to ease scaling from mid-range arrays up to large pools of up to two petabytes without the need to install high-end systems, HP said. It includes data-replication and disaster-recovery features such as cloning, snapshots, synchronous local mirroring and asynchronous remote mirroring.

Netgear offers six-bay desktop NAS

Netgear, a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking solutions, will release the industry's first six-bay desktop network-attached storage solution (NAS) for small and medium-sized businesses, in Australia this month, reports ARN.

ReadyNAS Pro provides up to 6TB of network-attached storage, enabling SMEs with up to 200 users to store, back up and share across the LAN or WAN from a combination of Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.

“The ReadyNAS Pro family has the capacity, scalability and performance of a true business-class solution that will help smaller businesses backup and protect their critical information today, and provide additional capacity as their storage needs grow,” says Ryan Parker, MD of Netgear Australia.

SMC integrates Intel tech

SMC Networks will integrate Intel's small business storage solution and processor technologies at the core of its new Managed Services Platform, a networking platform that enables VARs and IT administrators at SMEs to remotely monitor and manage their LANs, says Market Watch.

SMC's Managed Service Platform family, most of which will incorporate NAS solutions in addition to remote LAN management and monitoring capabilities, will offer a full complement of solutions designed to serve the needs of companies ranging from SME to large enterprises.

"The performance and reliability of Intel's processors and storage solutions made them an ideal solution for this exciting new product family," says Keith Alexis, VP of sales at SMC Networks.
