Sony Professional Services Europe (Sony PSE) and Questek will install networked electronic and audiovisual technology solutions at the Orlando and Royal Bafokeng Stadiums - being constructed for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Questek is Sony's of Barco screens in South Africa.

According to Ian Collins, 2010 project director at Sony PSE, the Royal Bafokeng Stadium, in Rustenburg, will be equipped with a 40 square metre Barco SLite 14 screen and monochrome scoreboard. The Orlando Stadium, in Soweto, will be fitted with two 30 square metre Barco SLite screens.

The venues are being completed to support the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup as well as the 2010 World Cup.

“We are also installing a CCTV solution at Royal Bafokeng to give spectators a secure environment while they enjoy the matches,” Collins adds. There are no plans yet to supply CCTV for the Orlando Stadium. “At present, we are only installing the two screens and monochrome scoreboard and clock, along with equipping the auditorium with AV technology at Orlando Stadium.”

The auditorium at Orlando Stadium will be fitted with a motorised screen, LCD monitors and a projector, says Collins.

Questek GM Sobi Mokholo says the joint venture between Sony, Barco and Questek has created a formidable pool of knowledge and resources to provide stadiums with technology that rivals the best in the world. “Spectators will be informed, entertained and educated in a way that they've never experienced before.”
