Consumer Web site Mybroadband has found that SA`s leading telecommunications players, Vodacom and MTN, are perceived to be the best at providing broadband services.
This is according to a recent survey conduced by 200 users on the site, where each had to rank seven incumbent broadband service providers, namely (in order they ranked) Vodacom, MTN, Neotel, Telkom, Cell C, iBurst and Sentech.
Mybroadband founder Rudolph Muller says elements aligned to service provision seem to have been the deciding factor in the ratings. This is based on his experience running the Web site, as well as previous surveys conducted.
"Vodacom and MTN`s strong focus on broadband and their drive to keep abreast of a fast-changing industry by providing the latest in mobile technologies bodes well for tech-savvy consumers," he says.
"Vodacom has good support on the data side, and both Vodacom and MTN`s technology - like HSDPA - is in line with world standards."
Muller says Sentech, on the other hand, is seen to be a bit of a dead horse.
"They won`t be much of a telecoms player anymore," predicts Muller. "For most consumers, they are dead in the water."
According to Muller, Sentech`s poor service delivery and its inability to deliver on its mandate of becoming SA`s wireless broadband champion have caused many consumers to write the company off as a legitimate competitor in the retail market.
