JSE-listed ICT group, Spescom Limited, today announced the strategic plans for its US subsidiary Spescom Software, Inc, previously Altris Software Inc.
Spescom Software is a leading provider of integrated document, configuration and records management (iDCR) solutions.
According to Spescom Software CEO, Carl Mostert, the group intends to change the strategic direction of the company to make it a streamlined, more market-driven operation.
"Firstly, effective from 1 October 2001, we have changed the name of Altris Software to Spescom Software in order to bring all Spescom operations under a single corporate brand identity and leverage the group's global marketing and branding presence. This reflects the importance that our parent company, Spescom Ltd, attaches to its international operations.
"We have also recognised that our distinctive competitive advantage is based on the fact that we can now offer an iDCR suite that addresses the information management problems faced by many enterprises in an all-inclusive manner. To achieve this goal, significant investment in product development has been made during the past year.
"We believe that this integrated suite, marketed under the eB brand, is the first of its kind and reflects the needs experienced by customers with a need to manage information about products, assets and processes throughout their life cycles. This need has been clearly expressed by our current customers including Railtrack, BNFL and AmerenUE among others," says Mostert.
Mostert notes that the company has also invested heavily in expanding its sales team over the past few months.
"This, together with an intensive sales training programme, has put the company in a much stronger position to engage the market in a more proactive manner. We will also focus our efforts in a number of key vertical markets including utilities, local government and transportation. Further to our announcement earlier this year of our integration with ArcIMS from ESRI, the leading developer of geographical information systems (GIS), we will look at developing alliances with other key players in our chosen markets."
Mostert concludes that despite delays in the placement of orders, due to economy slowdown, the company is confident that investments made during the year have served to strategically position it as an international market leader.
