Pretoria-based Stratus Computer Systems has announced 3-Commerce, its new strategic approach to integrating continuously available e-commerce solutions into customers' businesses.

The 3-Commerce initiative is the Stratus three-pronged approach to maximising an organisation's return on e-commerce investments by helping businesses deliver products and services to their customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week through any electronic channel in a secure and trusted environment.

Jeremy Lovett, business development director at Stratus Computer Systems SA, comments: "3-Commerce is more than just the implementation of technology. It is about the practical delivery of -facing systems integrated into an organisation's existing infrastructure."

Lovett explains that through the 3-Commerce programme, Stratus has developed a group of partner organisations to scope, implement and support e-commerce projects. This includes organisations like TheEcademy, which has created a method of detailing the process organisations should take to develop their e-commerce .

"The recent introduction of our E-Server product, whereby we supply continuous availability for e-commerce applications, is testimony that we are serious about this initiative. There are currently 800 million users with an estimated 1.2 million online in SA alone.

"Thomas Power, TheEcademy CEO, predicts that by 2002, 100 million companies will be connected to and conducting business over the Internet, representing enormous revenue-generating potential. Stratus wants to make certain that our customers secure the largest market share," adds Lovett.

Stratus has partnered with Hewlett-Packard for its Stratus E-Server product initiative which is based on Hewlett-Packard's PA-RISC chip and is designed to offer continuous online processing for the most rigorous e-commerce computing environments.

Today, most organisations allow customers the choice of conducting business through at least six contact channels. These range from the traditional branch, sales force or telephonic-based access points through to the implementation of mobile GSM commerce and natural voice technologies. Stratus provides Resilient Message Gateways and Resilient Application Servers to support these access channels.

"We have alliances with a number of integration companies which make certain that the delivery channel is not only continuously available but also integrated," adds Lovett.

"Stratus is in the business of supplying fault tolerant platforms on which to run solutions. With the 3-Commerce initiative, we have endeavoured to ensure that our clients see return on e-commerce investment."
