Local Web-based application developer webINTELLECT has announced that its IT services management (ITSM) tool 3blx has been awarded Microsoft .NET and Server 2003 certification.
Based on the ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) process framework, which is geared to delivering cost-effective IT operational excellence, 3blx is a comprehensive, browser-based application framework that provides a holistic approach to ITSM. It addresses all the main components of IT service management in an integrated manner, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and reducing costs.
According to webINTELLECT CEO Poena le Roux, solutions branded with the .NET logo enable customers to more quickly and easily integrate with their business partners, connect with their own customers, and provide the right information to their employees - saving precious time and conserving capital.
"The Microsoft .NET Logo provides a quick means of identifying products and solutions that connect through the power of Web services and are built on the Microsoft platform. Systems, applications and services that display the .NET Logo have been tested to support Web service capabilities and are optimised for the next generation of Internet-enabled computing. The .NET logo identifies a product or service that they can trust," says Le Roux.
"Since moving to the .NET Framework, our development speed has increased dramatically," says Le Roux. "Project time cycles have reduced dramatically which means more features and services for our users. With the .NET Framework, we can much more easily develop custom code for larger clients. It also means we offer more services and features at large. Again, this is because development times are compressed and the lines of code needed have dropped significantly."
To qualify for the Certified for Windows Server 2003 logo, applications must comply with server specification. The requirements are focused on the key abilities critical to a well-run server environment: security, reliability, high availability and supportability. Most, though not all, of the requirements in this specification focus on what the server component of an application should do and how it should behave. In a few cases this specification has client requirements that describe how client components that your application may have should behave when communicating with your server component.
Le Roux says this specification helps vendors and corporate developers build multi-user applications that run on any of the Windows Server 2003 family of operating systems, including Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and Datacenter Edition.
"These distributed applications may be client/server applications or n-tier applications. This specification is specifically targeted at the server component of a distributed application.
"3blx is home-grown, it is rand-based, making it far more affordable than its pound- or dollar-based counterparts. Furthermore, support is locally based, while the fact that we own the source code means the product is easily customised according to the client`s specific requirements," concludes Le Roux.
webINTELLECT is a South African company specialising in Web-based applications. It has over the years focused on designing, developing, implementing and maintaining Web-based transactional applications. Its applications are not merely Web presences but are full business applications used by a wide variety of industries.
Traditionally all of webINTELLECT`s applications were developed in Active Server Pages and some tools, most noticeably the Intranet-generator COLONY, have provided many customers with fast portal set-ups. As of 2003 all applications are developed based on the .NET architecture, providing applications with enriched functionality and enhanced performance. Furthermore, webINTELLECT customer`s business logic is not exposed to the user and therefore intellectual property around process and procedure are protected.
webINTELLECT develops and markets 3blx, a comprehensive, browser-based application framework that addresses all the main components of IT service management in an integrated manner, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and reducing costs.
