3Com South Africa is to launch its new credential program, the Master of Network Science (MNS). 3Com has developed the MNS program in order to recognize proficiency for network professionals in 3Com networking solutions.
The MNS program is presently the highest-level technical credential that is awarded to individuals, not companies. "The MNS credential shows that one is fully qualified to design, build and support 3Com networks," says 3Com`s Education manager, Andrew Foster. "By offering training to our end user customers as well as to our partners and channel, we constantly strive to improve the level of service provided by technical personnel and so add value to our products."
The MNS Program was designed to define what technical competencies are needed to perform a particular job and the courses were created to provide that knowledge, he explains.
Foster goes on to explain that the program has been designed to reflect the real-world circumstances in which people work. "Different expertise is required when working with different technologies, for this reason, there have to be a few MNS tracks with credentials given for the specific track that one chooses."
The five different tracks that one can follow are; LAN Solutions, WAN Solutions, Remote Access Solutions, Network Management and Network Architecture.
"Attending our courses are not a mandatory requirement of the program, however a web-based test must be passed which is associated with the track the individual has chosen. One only receives the MNS Credential once the lab-based test has been passed. This test is administered at one of five locations around the world," says Foster.
Once an individual attains the MNS Credential he/she is entitled to receive the quarterly technical 3Manuals without charge and will become a member of the 3Com Masters Forum, which allows the individual to participate in exclusive conferences, on-line chat groups, seminars and special events, including invitations to attend 3Com`s internal training events.
Priority access is also received by the holder of the MNS Credential to 3Com`s technology experts, so when he/she calls in, immediate access to escalated support is received.
Whilst training courses are not a mandatory part of the MNS program, a complete range of courses are available from the 3Com SA Education Centre, in order to compliment the program.
"3Com SA`s major focus is on education, as we believe we have a responsibility to our customers with regard to assisting them in the understanding of the networking technology available today," Foster adds.
