3Com has bundled what the company calls "Turbo Mode" with its OfficeConnect 11a/b/g wireless access points and client devices, effectively giving users an increase in high-speed wireless from 54Mbps up to 108Mbps.
The Turbo Mode wireless extensions offer both global and South African companies the latest in high-speed wireless options amid evolving wireless market trends.
In addition, 3Com has also enhanced its OfficeConnect access points with the Wireless Distribution System (WDS), a flexible product feature that allows companies to build a wireless infrastructure without connecting equipment to a wired local area network (LAN).
"We`re constantly enhancing and updating our wireless products, ensuring that we offer our customers strong wireless network offerings that feature the latest technology advancements," comments Wolfgang Held, systems architect at 3Com SA.
The OfficeConnect 11a/b/g wireless access points combine enterprise-class features and advanced security with ease-of-use, advanced security and affordability. Even larger enterprise customers using 3Com`s high-end enterprise wireless products can utilise the OfficeConnect products at small office remote sites for high-speed wireless connectivity.
Significantly, instead of forcing companies to pick one type of wireless standard over another, 3Com supports both 802.11a and 802.11g Turbo Mode extensions across its tri-mode OfficeConnect products. Subsequently, this enhanced wireless network delivers more bandwidth in order to speed up the performance of demanding business applications for mobile workers.
The Turbo Mode feature is already supported on 3Com`s enterprise-class Wireless LAN Access Point 8750, 8250 7250 and 11a/b/g wireless PC adapters.
The WDS feature allows for the set-up of completely wireless networks by linking several wireless access points with wireless links. This scenario alleviates the need to connect the wireless network into a wired LAN. It is ideal for open areas where wiring (or re-wiring) is cost-prohibitive.
