3Com integrates wired,
3Com is looking to create a single enterprise networking layer by integrating wired and wireless networking into a single solution, reports eWeek.
3Com, which is in the process of being bought by Hewlett-Packard, is rolling out its H3C UNA (unified network access) portfolio, which officials say has been built from the ground up and will include a common framework for managing wired and wireless devices.
The UNA portfolio includes integrated single console management capabilities and a common operating system across all H3C products, as well as integrated hardware, such as WAN controller modules and switches.
Virus targets Skype
Security experts have warned Skype users that new malware similar to the infamous Koobface worm that caused havoc on Facebook is now targeting the popular IP telephony service, states Computing.co.uk.
Trend Micro said that it detected the Koobface-like variant as TROJ_VILSEL.EA, a piece of malware designed to steal contact lists, phone numbers, locations and other information that forms part of a Skype profile.
"It is also capable of using Skype's built-in instant messaging capability to send links to people on the affected user's contact list," wrote Jonathan Leopando, a member of Trend's technical communications team. "These links all go to affected domains with copies of TROJ_VILSEL.EA."
Pub fined over WiFi copyright infringement
According to the MD of hotspot provider, The Cloud, a pub owner in the UK has been fined £8 000 (R97 000) because someone unlawfully downloaded copyrighted material over its open WiFi hotspot, says CNET News.
Graham Cove says he believes the case to be the first of its kind in the UK. However, he would not identify the pub concerned, because its owner, a pub that is a client of The Cloud's, had not yet given their permission for the case to be publicised.
Cove would say only that the fine had been levied in a civil case, brought about by a rights holder, "sometime this summer".
