3Com is extending it offerings in simpler PC management solutions with new products spanning mobile, desktop and server environments.
In line with this, Q Data Distribution (QDD) has announced the 3Com megahertz 10/100 LAN CardBus PC card and Ether Link 10/00 PCI family of network interface cards (NICs) for desktops and servers.
"Designed to address the rigorous requirements of today`s high-performance computing platforms, it delivers management capabilities to lower total cost of ownership," said QDD product manager Siobhan Hanvey.
Incorporating 3Com`s Dynamic Access technologies, the PC card enables IT mangers to remotely set up new mobile systems, monitor the network environment, diagnose and repair damaged systems and perform company-wide software installations or upgrades. It is the first PC card to extend desktop manageability into the mobile computing environment.
The EtherLink PCI card delivers desktop management that reduces the total cost of PC ownership, maintenance and user downtime. A new remote system alerts network managers about events such as system failure or theft.
The solution leverages the emerging Platform Event Trap (PET) standard so alerts can be sent and received by the central management station. In addition, the enhanced remote wake up and managed PC boot agent features allow network managers to monitor and support all systems remotely, avoiding costly desktop visits.
