As part of a global product roll-out, 3Com has introduced its SuperStack 3 range of networking products and a range of wireless Bluetooth products.
This is the single biggest product announcement 3Com has made in its 21-year history.

The new SuperStack 3 range includes various switches in 10 megabit, 100 megabit and gigabit flavours; filtering and firewall products; Web caching engines; and a content switch to increase the availability and scalability of server farms.
The SuperStack 3 4900 switch, available immediately, offers 12 ports at 100/1000mbps, sporting a 32Gbps switching capacity, and moving 24 million packets per second. The unit comes in a 1.5u form factor, and is expected to cost less than $5 000. The 4900SX is expected in January, and will offer similar functionality over fibre.
3Com is offering a new lifetime warranty with the product, which includes faults on the fan and power supply. An advanced hardware replacement policy guarantees 24-hour turnaround time in the US and Europe, and 3Com sub-Saharan Africa`s GM Buddie Ceronie says he will try to emulate the system locally, with 24-hour advanced hardware replacement to customs.
"This is all at absolutely no additional cost to the customer," says Ceronie. "All future software upgrades will be for free."
Ceronie also announced new Ethernet gigabit network interface cards (NIC), which will operate over standard CAT5 Ethernet.
3Com plans to release two content switches, under the names ContentSwitch and ContentSwitch+, in April next year. These devices will sit in front of Web server farms and load balance to ensure availability and scalability of the farm. The Web Cache 1 000 and 3 000 products are expected in the same time frame.
The new Bluetooth product range includes a Bluetooth PC card and a Bluetooth USB adapter. The company says Bluetooth complements its AirConnect line of wireless LAN products. The recent acquisition of Nomadic Technologies is expected to give the company technology to connect peripherals wirelessly, including printers, scanners and storage devices.
