3Com scores another market share victory to extend its leadership in Gigabit Ethernet networking solutions

Market research firm Cahners In-Stat reports that 3Com Corporation has strengthened its leadership position in the copper-based Gigabit Ethernet market with 29.8% of the market`s switch ports shipped worldwide during the third quarter of calendar year 2001. 3Com shipped a total of 35 000 Gigabit Ethernet over Copper ports, according to the figures in the report.

"Again, 3Com leads in the Gigabit over copper space, as noted by Cahners In-Stat, with customers choosing 3Com over the competition for solutions that are easy to own, install and manage," said Karen Oddey, vice president, marketing and business strategy, 3Com`s Business Networks Company. "The innovation that is built into every switch adds real value to our customers` networks. 3Com has taken the complexity out of implementing Gigabit so that customers can easily boost their network speeds and ultimately enjoy the return on their network investment."

Available worldwide, 3Com`s Gigabit Ethernet networks are easy to own, install and manage, and offer rich functionality and high performance.

The outstanding success of 3Com`s SuperStack 3 Switch 4900 Gigabit Ethernet family contributed to the leadership position in the Gigabit Ethernet market segment. The SuperStack 3 Switch 4900 family was extended in October 2001 to include the SuperStack3 Switch 4924, the SuperStack 3 Switch 4950, and new Layer 3 software for the entire switching family. 3Com also offers chassis switches for Gigabit connectivity with the Switch 4000 family, which includes the Switch 4005 and Switch 4007.
