Providing PC OEM partners the most comprehensive connectivity solutions for the network and Internet, 3Com Corporation announced today that its best selling Fast EtherLink XL PCI 10/100 Network Interface Card (NIC) is an available option on Compaq`s new award-winning Deskpro EN Series and Desktop EP Series Models.
"3Com and Compaq are both perceived by customers as having leading edge, high-value, high-performance products," says Doug Spreng, executive vice president of 3Com`s Client Access Business Unit. "The 3Com Fast EtherLink XL NIC brings pre-installed 3Com networking to next generation PCs through a host of value-added features such as Parallel Tasking II for increased performance and DynamicAccess software designed for easy network management."
Selected by Compaq for its standard-based management capabilities, the Fast EtherLink XL NIC allows network administrators to remotely perform time intensive chores such as updating desktop software, repairing software configurations and getting damaged computers back on-line, explains 3Com SA`s channel director, Dirk Bosmans.
"All of these capabilities significantly lower the total cost of ownership (TCO) traditionally associated with PC upkeep by eliminating user downtime and enabling downloads and application updates without going desktop-to-desktop," he says.
"Compaq is committed to offering our customers the latest technologies as soon as they are available," says Ed Ellett, Director, Desktop Products and SMB, Compaq Computer Corporation. "Choosing 3Com, as an option for the Deskpro product family, helps us to deliver the types of products that take advantage of new network standards for improved efficiency while controlling total cost ownership."
As the strategic network interface connection of choice for desktop and portable computers, 3Com represents nearly 50% of all connections currently being sold today.
"One of the reasons for this preference is DynamicAccess software which makes the network, and the computers connected to the network, run faster giving business ways to customise and monitor their networks," says 3Com`s Bosmans. "DynamicAccess software leverages emerging and existing network standards, allowing it to work in multivendor environments and is a value-added feature 3Com NICs."
Since its introduction in January 1998, the Fast EtherLink XL PCI 10/100 NIC has been integrated into desktop and portable models from many of the world`s leading PC manufacturers.
