3Com SA has introduced a new addition to its portfolio of networking products, the SuperStack 3 Switch 4400 FX - a fibre-based product for lower-cost network connections.
The Switch 4400 FX has been developed to provide more secure information transmissions over longer distances, while offering bandwidth saving and an enhanced security features.
Comments Chris van Niekerk, country manager of 3Com SA: "Secure desktop connections have become a high priority for a number of businesses, including government and educational institutions.
"The new Switch 4400 unit achieves this by using FX fibre, which is inherently more secure than copper wiring as it is impervious to external snooping."
In addition, FX fibre can operate at distances of up to 2km, allowing connections of much greater distances than copper Category 5 (Cat 5) cabling. This greater distance also gives the switch additional reach for low bandwidth aggregating sites.
The SuperStack 3 Switch 4400 FX packs 24 ports in a small "IU" space and offers resilient stacking if additional ports are required.
Advanced traffic prioritisation also screens unwanted traffic from the network while prioritising key applications.
