The 3D GeForce2 GTS introduces the NVIDIA Shading Rasterizer (NSR) which delivers 2 textures per pixel, per-pixel shading and complex pixel operation in a single pass with 4 independent pixel pipelines (to simulate material properties and natural phenomena), thus processing eight texels per clock cycle.
"This new architecture delivers up to 1.6 Gigatexels per second of peak fill rate performance, a dramatic improvement in texture processing power over any previous consumer graphics processor. With second generation hardware transform and lighting (T&L) engines, the GeForce2 GTS can process the entire 3D pipeline to deliver more than 25 million triangles per second to produce realistic worlds and lifelike characters with fluid and engaging motions," says Laubscher.
The GEForce2 GTS boasts a 256-bit graphics architecture optimised with 32MB of double-data rate (DDR) memory, effectively operating at 333MHz to generate 5.3GB per second of dedicated graphics memory bandwidth for full motion frame rates with visual realism at resolutions of up to 1600 x 1200. AGP 4X support includes fast writes and execute mode, and enables the CPU to send data directly to the GPU, to maximise overall system performance with screen resolutions as high as 2048 x 1536 and colour depth up to 16.7 simultaneous colours, with flicker-free refresh rates as fast as 240Hz.
The 3D GeForce2 GTS enables PC users to experience accurate surface attributes and textures in real time, rendering cinematically rich detailed environments. These compelling visual elements are a function of shaders, or per-pixel shading. In this process, pixels are assigned different attributes, such as colour, light, shadow, reflectivity, gloss and more to accurately replicate complex environments.
The graphics accelerator ships with comprehensive Direct3D and OpenGL support and 3D features including order independent full scene multi-sample anti-aliasing, cube environment mapping, vertex bending, dot-product bump mapping and DX7 Texture Compression (DXTC) for complete support and compatibility with current and future games and graphics software. Software bundled with the 3D Gefore2 GTS include: Enhanced BlasterControl 4.0, Creative LAVA player, Media Ring Talk, E-Color Colorific and 3Deep, Microsoft DirectX 7.0, as well as a Geforce2 GTS demo CD and Windows drivers.
