Maxtec Peripherals has announced the availability of SMC Networks latest addition to its award winning Barricade family, the SMC7804WBRA, an all-in-one solution for PC or Mac users wanting to share an ADSL broadband connection in the home or office.
Functioning as a bridge and/or a router, the SMC7804WBRA provides a high-performance link from branch offices, home offices or individual subscribers to their network service providers (including Internet Service Providers).
The SMC7804WBRA combines a 2.4GHz 54 Mbps 802.11g Wireless Access Point, four 10/100 RJ45 ports for connection to a PC or network and an additional RJ11 port that connects to an ADSL line. The four RJ45 ports can be connected to a network hub or switch to increase the number of people sharing a single user ADSL to up to 250 individuals.

Particular attention has been paid in the design of the SMC7804WBRA to the specific needs of the SoHo/SME environment. For example, parents working from home, or business owners concerned with productivity levels, can block certain websites by entering either a URL address, or just a keyword of the website.
Connection to the Internet is made simple by SMC`s Web-based management tool, while a built-in DHCP server makes creation and expansion of networks around the routers simple and easy. The users` interaction with the new Barricade is also an important factor. A graphical user interface is supplied for installation, configuration and management, while e-mail alerts alert the user to attempts to hack into the network.
