600SA Holdings tightens stock control with IMPACT Encore

Johannesburg, 27 Jun 2001

Leading machinery supplier and manufacturer 600SA Holdings, a subsidiary of the UK-based Group 600 plc, has tightened stock control and improved productivity by implementing the IMPACT Encore ERP system from local developer Syspro.

Scott Williams, systems accountant for 600SA Holdings, says the company's complex requirements called for a flexible, powerful and fully integrated system.

"We operate multiple bins and warehouses, and items are not necessarily stocked in a specific warehouse," he says. "Countrywide access to all the warehouses is essential, and we make extensive use of IMPACT Encore's facilities to meet customer requirements on very short notice.

"Our stock is so well monitored and managed now that it's had a major positive impact on our bottom line. In addition, IMPACT Encore's audit trails and reporting facilities enable us to track components down to nuts and bolts level. We also use the planning module to assist with assembling various components, thereby facilitating the manufacturing process."

600SA Holdings has its head office in Johannesburg and factory in Kempton Park with branches in Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, George, East London, Pietersburg and Nelspruit. The company manufactures truck-mounted cranes, aerial access platforms and refuse compactors. Imports consist of forestry harvesting equipment as well as machine tools for the engineering industry. Products are exported to neighbouring African states with contacts extending to Tanzania and Mauritius.

Commenting further on the benefits offered by IMPACT Encore, Williams mentions the system's stability and high level of integration, which contributes greatly to the smooth running of 600SA Holdings' operations.

"The best thing about an integrated system is that we only have to deal with a single supplier," he says. "Many other ERP systems require the involvement of anything from two to six suppliers and problems are seldom resolved satisfactorily."

600SA Holdings' IMPACT Encore environment is supported by ProActive Integrators, one of Syspro's Johannesburg-based dealers.

A leading ERP software manufacturer, Syspro's IMPACT Encore product is used and supported in more than 50 countries around the world. Product-wide support for the creation of XML documents (supported by built-in XSL style sheets to make such documents suitable for rendering in a web browser) has been included in IMPACT Encore Version 5.0. The company is currently working towards the implementation of XML (and XBRL) support in the General Ledger Financial Report Writer in a future release.
