Bidvest Group company, Minolta South Africa`s monochrome digital printer division recorded a substantial 89% increase in sales in the first quarter of 2006 compared to the first quarter of 2005.

Minolta SA copier division product manager, Paul Symonds, says the company`s foray into production printing made a considerable impact on sales for the first quarter of 2006. "Our decision to boost our monochrome range with two new production printers, the Konica Minolta bizhub PRO 920 and bizhub PRO 1050, has begun to pay off.

"In addition, we`ve had significant success in the tender business, which has boosted sales of our low to mid-volume machines such as the Konica Minolta bizhub 210, bizhub 250 and bizhub 350," says Symonds.

A positive spin-off of the closure of Konica Minolta`s camera business is the concentration of research and development (R&D) efforts on business technology.

Symonds says all devices under the Konica Minolta banner have benefited from the intensified R&D and many have received accolades from industry watchdogs such as Bertl and BLI. "Our clients are benefiting from equipment that is versatile, functional and attractively priced.

"There is no doubt that the merger of Konica and Minolta has had a similar outcome for our products. Konica Minolta has grown considerably as a global brand and the combining of technologies has resulted in highly sophisticated offerings," says Symonds.

Another contributing factor to the division`s success is the ongoing backup offered by Minolta SA`s Integrated Systems Information Exchange (MiSix), which provides the necessary hardware and software support to its clients, including access to its national help-desk.
