Stephen Blewett, former MD of Altech Autopage Cellular, and marketing and sales executive of 8ta since 2009, has relinquished his position at Telkom's mobile arm to “pursue new opportunities”.

8ta says Blewett, executive for exclusive channels within 8ta's sales unit, officially ended his employment with the company at the end of April. Pieter Spies, 8ta's managing executive for sales, will oversee Blewett's role until a replacement is found.

Leadership reform

Blewett's resignation comes after Telkom earlier this year announced it was implementing a new organisational structure to boost its mobile stake. The company said 8ta was on the hunt for an MD, who would be an executive committee member of the Telkom Group. In the meantime, 8ta's executive team would report to CFO Jacques Schindeh"utte.

In January, Telkom Group CEO Mombulelo Moholi said it was “an appropriate time” to reconfigure the Telkom Mobile top leadership team, and that announcements as to new appointments in line with this would be made “in due course”. No announcements regarding this have yet been made.

As for the position of CEO, 8ta's senior managing executive, Amith Maharaj, says Telkom's human resources division is “in the process of recruiting a suitable candidate”.
