Telkom's cellular arm, 8ta, today announced reduced rates of up to 25% for its once-off and postpaid packages.

In addition to the price slash, the operator has revised its contract terms to include month-to-month, 12- and 24-month terms. The 12- and 24-month contracts include a modem, while the month-to-month contract does not.

8ta says it has tailored its Internet packages for new and existing customers. Managing executive of Telkom Mobile Amith Maharaj says existing Internet subscribers will automatically be migrated to the new price plans. “After their contracts are up for renewal, they can also opt to subscribe on a month-to-month or 12-month contract basis.”

Once the monthly recurring postpaid Internet package has been depleted, users will be charged an out-of-bundle rate of R 0.30 per MB, while the once-off Internet subscribers will be charged an out-of bundle rate of R1 per MB.

Subscribers will also have access to a free 8ta e-mail account with a 5GB mailbox, giving them access to 25GB of online storage and free access to online Microsoft Office suite, which includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint. In addition, postpaid and once-off subscribers will be able to send five SMSes daily, and receive 50 free SMSes to use on that day.

8ta says it has provided users with a “safety net” that enables them to check their balances on its self- portal and via USSD, as well as make out of bundle purchase decisions in real-time.

“Users will also receive a free call-out and support services with every 3G data modem purchased.”
