There are two variations to the promotion. The first is a 10GB bundle for anytime surfing at R199 per month, resulting in a charge of 1.9c per MB.

The second offer is R299 per month for a 10GB bundle for normal browsing and another 10GB for midnight surfing. This breaks down to a charge of about 1c per MB.

This is the lowest mobile broadband rate available in SA, according to Amith Maharaj, managing executive of 8ta.

Vodacom's data bundles start from about 17c per MB. MTN offers 300MB for 50c per MB and Cell C offers 3GB for 13c per MB.

8ta's offer does not include the price of the modem. However, Maharaj says customers can use existing modems if they have them. There is also a once-off SIM and connection charge of R200.

The promotion starts on Sunday and will last for a limited period only. 8ta has declined to mention the closing date of the offer. However, those that sign up for the offer will receive it for a full 24-month period.

The promotion will only be offered on 8ta's network. A link, available on the 8ta Web site, provides a coverage map for those who want to check if they are within the coverage area - prior to making a purchase decision.
