8x8 intros VOIP on Facebook
8x8 has released 8x8 Connect, a point-and-click VOIP calling application for Facebook, reports CNN Money.
8x8 Connect lets Facebook users add a 'call me' button to their home page, enabling other users to call them without revealing their actual phone number. Users can set a variety of phone numbers as their contact numbers and can switch between them.
“8x8 developed this technology for use within the 8x8 Virtual Office hosted PBX service and it was a very simple process to migrate it to Facebook,” says 8x8 president, Dan Weirich.
Apollo, PortaOne partner
Apollo Communications has selected the PortaOne PortaBilling Oracularius to power its new Junex VOIP private branch exchange (PBX) product, according to TMCnet.
PortaBilling Oracularius will provide Junex with launching, pricing and provisioning capabilities along with virtually unlimited scalability and assured reliability in Oracle Real Application Cluster environments.
“In order to adopt PortaBilling Oracularius, we needed to migrate from our legacy MySQL database structure to the Oracle Real Application Cluster which supports Oracularius,” says Jeffrey Platt, vice-president of Apollo Communications.
Vodafone pushes VOIP hardware
Vodafone is rebranding and re-introducing its femtocell VOIP hardware product, reports Telappliant.
The 'sure signal' device allows users to extend the 3G network coverage of their home or office and increases the range of IP telephony solutions available to the typical users. It can also interface with their broadband connection to allow for backchannel traffic.
Simon Saunders, chairman of the Femto Forum, says: “Femtocells have been causing a major stir in the telecoms industry as they represent a major new opportunity for economically delivering increased mobile broadband coverage and data speeds."
