900TB SAN implemented

One of the UK's largest utility companies, Yorkshire Water, has put in Affiniti's new expanded storage environment, reports PublicTechnology.

The organisation will be able to improve availability of key applications and also address future storage demands associated with both new and existing business applications to boost customer service.

The storage area network is currently configured for a total raw capacity of 47TB, with the ability to scale up to 900TB.

IT inventory meets EDD needs

For years debate has raged about the value of technology inventories for disaster recovery and business continuity, and whether they should be performed by an internal IT department or an outside organisation; today, there's a new twist to the debate, writes Law.com.

The question is: How much will inventories help companies' preparedness for litigation and electronic data discovery (EDD)?

At the most basic level, a technology inventory is a detailed roster of a company's IT systems, but needs to be a 'living' document that is maintained and updated as technology and data change within the company. These same inventories can play a key role in reducing the costs of EDD - before and during litigation.

GPS-based tape tracker unveiled

Fujifilm has released the Fujifilm Tape Tracker, a high-performance data asset management solution that improves the and shipping of data tape media, according to Computer Technology Review.

The solution is designed to fit inside a standard tape media case and combines leading GPS technology and a Web-based application to provide CIOs and data managers with location and tracking information in real-time.

"Maintaining integrity of data from creation to archive is a primary focus for many corporate data centres, particularly as disaster recovery strategies and government become critical to the longevity of a business," says Daniel Greenberg, product planning manager of the recording media division at Fujifilm.
