A B2B update on the Mother City`s digital transformation

Johannesburg, 14 Feb 2002

For the third year, the Cape Information Technology Expo, CITE, will provide business people in the Western Cape with an opportunity to catch up on the latest in technology and equipment.

CITE is an IT exposition in the Cape solely dedicated to the business sector, which is supported by the IT Association ITA and backed by CITI, the Cape Information Technology Initiative. The show is timed in tandem with CADDEX, the 7th CAD CAM CAE GIS and Computer Graphics Exhibition, ensuring a wider spectrum of products and information.

CITE 2002 will be held from Wednesday, 13 March, to Friday, 15 March, at Grand West in Goodwood. This year added emphasis will be placed on SMEs.

It is common knowledge that the IT industry has been going through various peaks and pitfalls in the recent months, making it beneficial for the different players to liaise with their business partners in order to improve existing products and services.

Event organiser Doug Adams affirmed: "This year`s focus is to really meet the needs of both the visitors and exhibitors. Visitors are interested to see what the cutting-edge technology is and the new products on the market. However, from the exhibitor`s point of view, they want to build company brand showcase products and services and generate new leads. We would like to marry the two because it is essentially a business-to-business exhibition for the IT industry."

Registration process

CITE is the only IT expo in the Western Cape focusing on B2B, which is only open to business people. IT executives, managers and decision-makers across the board of commerce and industry, including banking, finance, insurance, manufacturing and retail sectors are being targeted.

To ensure a smooth entrance procedure, visitors can pre-register on the Web site www.citexpo.co.za or contact Anita Peterson at expopro@iafrica.com for complimentary tickets. Another 30 000 tickets are distributed via direct mail and IT and CADDEX related associations. Visitors can also register on arrival with their business cards.

Programme and exhibitors

A series of business seminars and workshops will be held to discuss relevant IT industry issues. Sectors include the latest in e-commerce; mobile commerce, supply chain management and facilities management will be of particular interest.

Among the exhibits, office and business automation still remains a vital area for all business people followed by a slow but growing awareness of the importance of security systems in IT.

Software developers ScanSoft and Building Management and Control Company Fire and Instrument Services will introduce their successfully running IBMS Programme. The company is set to storm the international market at the Intersec 2002 in Dubai at the end of January. The acclaimed Intelligent Building Management System, IBMS, is an integrated control and management system for buildings, factories, hotels, data processing environments and similar enterprises. Major SA companies such as Sanlam, KWV, Shell SA and Anglo Americans Namakwa Sands Smelter have opted for IBMS system and Managing Director Ivar Kvale is happy to discuss any questions either at the seminar or the ScanSoft stand.

Another exhibitor that will offer seminars is iTouch. The company will present "the latest in business mobility and PDA as well as the new advances in SMS with game and chat functions," says Simon Leps, marketing executive of iTouch.

Manufacturing companies interested in improving their supply chain management can benefit from a one-day seminar held by SAPICS focusing on "Optimising the Supply Chain". The South African Production and Inventory Control Society is an organisation that is internationally recognised to achieve world-class standards by developing career-oriented education programmes in integrated resource management, hereby working closely with various tertiary institutes.

On the educational front, visitors interested in career options in IT, training programs, genuine certificates in their business sector may spend time with the different exhibitors like the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), Faculty Training Institute, Cape Technikon e-Business Centre and CITI.

"War has been declared on fly-by-night training providers," says CompTIA. "Aspiring IT professionals keen to locate genuine, value for money centres can now take heart. A significant part of the campaign is dedicated to highlighting real certification and the real costs behind examinations."

CITE 2002 is the optimum platform for exhibitors like Rangegate, a leading mobile commerce solutions provider, ITWeb, an online technology news site, and digital publisher Offline Mags, which can communicate present developments in the industry to a chosen audience, discuss latest issues and trends and network with equal-minded people and specialists in the various fields.

With the emphasis on business-to-business, the exhibition will be a sensory delight - a touch, feel and see scenario of what`s hot and what`s not in Cape Town`s digital zone.
