A business perspective on innovation

By James Lawson, ITWeb journalist

Only organisations that make optimal use of their assets will survive the current economic upheaval. Information-related assets account for a growing slice of funds available to the organisation, and do not always provide appropriate return.

These are the issues to be discussed at the 'Information, innovation and insight: a business perspective' conference, taking place on 7 and 8 April at the CPUT Hotel School, in Grainger Bay, Cape Town.

The conference will examine emerging technology from a business perspective, to identify how innovations in the use of information can lead to improved organisational performance. It will highlight how business can improve return on increasingly costly information management tools, and use innovation to gain a competitive advantage.

The conference is broken into four sessions:

New intelligence and information-led transformation: This session will explore the new levels of knowledge and intelligence that emerging information management technologies give the organisation, and how these enable organisational transformation.

Innovation and insight: Will discuss the trends in IT, facilitate innovation, and provide insights into the management and performance of the enterprise.

The 'business perspective' session looks at change and innovation, and how they support and foster improved business performance.

Lastly, the 'optimisation strategy' meeting will focus on the fact that information management assets are expensive, and strategies that need to be developed to make optimal use of business and information processes.

Keynote speakers represent business, developers of information management solutions, research organisations, government and academia. These include Geoff Hainebach (CEO of Cape Venture Partners), Professor Uwe Lammel (University Wismar Germany), Simon Carpenter (director of SAP), Saartjie Grobbelaar (Frost & Sullivan), Michelle Beetar (Novell MD), and Professor Johannes Cronje (Dean of CPUT).

The conference will be opened by Helen Zille, premier of the Western Cape, and the consul-general of the Federal Republic of Germany, H Bussman.

To attend the event, which is suited for business owners on all levels, as well as strategic information systems managers, early-bird registration (before 19 March) is R2 250, thereafter R2 750.
