A driving force: Women making a difference

By Sentech
Johannesburg, 30 Nov 2004

The broadband signal and multimedia distributor, Sentech, has become a major sponsor of the first Women's World Cup of Golf, taking place at the Fancourt Hotel and Country Club Estate from 11 to 13 February 2005.

A total of 20 nations from across the globe will compete in this international event, with the three major stakeholders, the Robe di Kappa Ladies European Tour, the LPGA Tour and the WPGA of South Africa, fully endorsing another historic milestone in the women's game.

In line with Sentech's value to embrace diversity, the Women's World Cup of Golf provides a previously disadvantaged group with a platform to excel.

Sentech's female CEO, Dr Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane, is already making the stand for women in the boardrooms of a male-dominated ICT sector, and similarly the Women's World Cup of Golf is enabling women to show their worth on the golf course.

In recent years, the golf course has become the unofficial boardroom for many organisations. And as many women are now the decision-makers in these boardrooms, it has become important for women to hold their own on a golf course.

"Interaction during a round of golf plays an important role in forming relationships. You can gain a new perspective on your associates and clients, see how they react in a tense situation and, at the same time, learn in a setting that encourages relaxed conversation. The course is also a good place for career-minded women to evaluate self-performance under pressure," says Dr Mokone-Matabane. The Women's World Cup of Golf is not only a pioneering initiative in SA, but also in the world. For this reason, Sentech is proud to align its vision of being the leader in providing world-class broadband communications to a golf initiative that is to become the leader in international golfing events.
