A helping hand for CHOC

By Sentech

CHOC (Children's Haematology Oncology Clinics) will for the fourth consecutive year, receive a cheque from Sentech which will be presented to the CHOC Bloemfontein office today. The funds are proceeds from Sentech's World's Biggest Company Golf Day hosted in May this year.

South African cancer statistics claim that approximately 700 children need treatment each year. However, there is speculation from the international community that this number should be double, indicating that often children are misdiagnosed.

"We always strive to ensure the homes maintain a reasonable appearance to help create a positive atmosphere to facilitate the treatment and healing process for both the parents and the children. Medical equipment is an obvious essential, and volume infusion pumps and heart rate monitors are expensive," says Linda Strydom, CHOC Free State Treasurer.

Cancer patients require long-term treatment with a recommend period of three years at least, and this is where Sentech is able to step in. The funding provides ward upgrades, transport facilities and furnishings for the various CHOC houses.

"Sentech has found a worthy cause to identify with. We are excited about this event and are extremely proud to be associated with an organisation that brings joy to the lives of so many children debilitated by cancer," says Sentech's CEO, Dr Sebiletso Mokone-Matabane.
