The growing number of commuters from Gauteng to the coast will have access to serviced office space in Knysna from May, with the launch of Emerge Dock, a project of the Emerge Group.
"There is a huge trend of people moving their families from Gauteng to coastal areas that offer a better lifestyle and less crime," says Jean Moncrieff of the Emerge Group.
"Working from home is often necessary but not always the best solution, so people need a professional environment where they can be productive even though they might be away from their main offices."
Moncrieff says Emerge Dock will offer virtual and serviced offices including reception and mail holding, personal assistant services, furnishing, utilities, cleaning, transport, VOIP and a data centre with automated backup facilities.
"It's an easy, fast, convenient solution with flexible lease terms to suit people with diverse needs, whether it's for a full virtual office or just an occasional hot desk.
"The serviced office space already available in the market is astronomically priced," says Moncrieff. "Emerge Dock aims to offer a far more cost-effective service to those who just need a quiet space with access to information and great coffee. We're working with leading technology partners to ensure we can offer a superb service that meets our customers' requirements, whether they need a completely virtual solution or simply a hot dock with good bandwidth and VOIP services."
Moncrieff says Knysna will serve as a test bed for Emerge Dock. Once successful, the model will be rolled out to other coastal cities as well as business centres in Africa.
"We're in the process of negotiating Dock locations around the country that will attract local entrepreneurs, telecommuters and international business people.
"We're moving into an age of virtuality," says Moncrieff. "Increasingly, it doesn't really matter where you're working from; what matters is how productive you can be where you are.
