A spot of colour in continuous feed printing

Two colours on two sides - and a highly appealing price: the Oc'e Pagestream 400 DSC
Johannesburg, 26 Jun 2002

Oc'e, a provider of innovative digital printing solutions, has unveiled its new digital press, the Oc'e Pagestream 400 DSC.

Engineered for two-colour, double-sided printing, the Oc'e Pagestream 400 DSC unites continuous-feed processing with Oc'e CustomTone to bring colour to the game. The new system combines the traditional productivity and reliability of a continuous feed printer with the possibilities of a cut sheet machine. With a second colour, corporate identity can be presented to perfection on continuous-feed paper.

The Oc'e Pagestream 400 DSC is great for applications such as printing utility bills with logos in corporate colours, and for applications where colour is used to draw attention to key items. And it is also ideal for personalised manuals in two colours.

Combining the best of new, established technology

The Oc'e Pagestream 400 DSC comprises two Oc'e Pagestream 200 DSC connected in series, and the Oc'e CustomTone colour technology. Together, the two Pagestream 200 DSC create a continuous forms twin printing system and print up to 100% variable data in black plus another colour. By combining two machines, Oc'e offers flexibility, economy and a maximum of choice: one side or two, black and white or two-colour. In twin operation with CustomTone, the Oc'e Pagestream 400 DSC outputs 100 A4 sheets per minute in 2/2 mode (double-sided and two colours). In single operation the system prints at a speed of up to 400 A4 ppm. The Oc'e Pagestream 400 DSC integrates perfectly with the Oc'e PRISMA production workflow management software - for optimal control of production.

Flexible print resolution

The printing system is available with single resolution and variable resolution (Multiple Resolution Mode, MRM). With the automatic identification and switching feature, the system can even select the right resolution for the data stream as it arrives: 240, 300 or 600 dpi.

Colour as a marketing tool

Hays Document Technologies (Hays DT), a UK-based provider of document management services, is the first company in Europe to install the Oc'e Pagestream 400 DSC. Every year, Hays DT handles over 180 million document pages - direct mail, invoices and much more besides - for clients in telecommunications, banking, public utilities and administration.

The new printing system from Oc'e will be deployed chiefly for printing two-colour invoices for Telewest, one of the UK`s top-ranking broadband communications and media groups. Oc'e CustomTone will be used to accentuate elements of text on the invoices.

Alan Bennett, CEO of Hays DT, explains why the company chose Oc'e: "The Oc'e technology gives us a range of business advantages. The Pagestream 400 DSC enables us to deliver our customers high quality and added value, and the investment will soon pay off. We posed some tough demands of the integrated printing system - we needed document management software, for instance, and the solution had to work with continuous feed and deliver ready-trimmed A4 output. Oc'e is able to do it all. The system is flexible enough for us to adjust capacity to demand, which makes us a more effective performer."
