Aastra BusinessPhone “goes SIP”

New release of the SME call manager extends Aastra's focus on investment protection, open standards and mobility.

Johannesburg, 05 Oct 2010

Aastra, a leading provider of telephony solutions to small and medium businesses, has launched version 9.0 of its BusinessPhone call control manager range, with improved features for SIP standard and in-house mobility enabling staff to be more responsive and productive while 'on the move'.

With this latest release, BusinessPhone now supports SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), which is a cornerstone of Aastra's commitment to open standards. Thanks to its new SIP extension board, both existing and new BusinessPhone customers can easily adopt Aastra's range of SIP desktop and cordless terminals:

* For desk phones, the Aastra 6700i SIP family offers a complete range of terminals from cost-effective entry level to fully featured touch screen phones. All Aastra SIP desk phones are equipped with advanced XML capability, allowing access to customised services and productivity enhancing applications. The XML browser also offers virtually unlimited potential to create custom menus or specific actions for conference manager, directory and even vertical applications.

* For cordless terminals, BusinessPhone systems now support Aastra SIP DECT handsets including the feature-rich Aastra 600d DECT phone range that offers an intuitive user-interface similar to mobile phones. Other features available, which vary by model, specifically respond to professional requirements: Bluetooth connectivity, dustproof case for those working in environments such as warehouses or workshops, and waterproof designs for the healthcare industry where the phone can easily and safely be wiped with disinfectant. With Aastra's SIP DECT solution, professional users can benefit from a scalable, high quality and secure system for their on-premise mobility requirements, which combines the benefits of the IP network and DECT to deliver a best-in-class mobility solution.

Thomas Stephan, Head of Product Line Management for Small and Medium Enterprise systems at Aastra, comments: “This latest release of BusinessPhone extends Aastra's offering of investment protection for existing customers, and deepens our commitment to open standards and mobility. Mobility is important for small and medium businesses because their staff needs to be highly productive and responsive at all times. Release 9.0 enhances and builds on the strength of BusinessPhone's well featured mobility offering, which includes Mobile Extension and Aastra Mobile Client, our fixed mobile convergence solution.”

Other improvements available with BusinessPhone version 9.0 include the introduction of the new Aastra 7433i and 7434ip terminals on BusinessPhone.

Aastra's BusinessPhone call control managers are easy to deploy, and are highly reliable, versatile, offering excellent value for new and existing customers. BusinessPhone can support anywhere from just a few users up to 200 extensions on any mix of IP and traditional lines, in one or multiple locations - including remote workers. A choice of user-friendly applications for contact centres, unified messaging, fixed mobile convergence (with the latest release of the Aastra Mobile Client), computer telephony integrations and more ensures that BusinessPhone call managers can be customised to respond to customers' unique requirements.
